The last book I finished was Alexandra Shulman’s book Inside Vogue: A Diary of My 100th Year. From it, I gleaned many lessons—about life, work, and the undercurrent of the fashion industry. Yet, the one that’s stuck with me most is a little bit of shopping wisdom from the former editor of British Vogue herself.
“I’ve learned it’s best to buy clothes when you find something you really like, even if you have no reason to wear it, rather than have to get something for a job interview or a party next week and inevitably fail or run amok.”
This line hit me so hard it completely restructured the way I thought about my wardrobe, and I’ve been thinking of this line for a month. I used to always do the opposite: I strategise my purchases around important occasions. But that left me with a wardrobe full of items that lost about 20% of their significance to me once their special day was over. Shulman’s philosophy ensures you have a wardrobe of pieces you purchased out of desire rather than necessity.
Voilà, my eye candy for the month of February—some of which have already made it past Checkout.
